Hempstead District 26 AA Academic Champions

Hempstead High School captured 1st place at the District 26 AA Academic Competition this week with 378 points. District 26 AA had eight school competing for the district title. Franklin came in 2nd with 260 points and Trinity came in 3rd with 235 points. HHS qualified for regional competition in 14 different events. HHS swept the Feature Writing event earning all three top medals and took first in Journalism. Hempstead won the gold in eight individual events the silver in eight individual events and the bronze in three individual events.

This is the first time in over 20 years that a Hempstead Academic team has won first at a district meet. Congratulations!

The next regular meeting of the HISD Board of Trustees will be held Monday, May 19, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Administration Board Room.

6th Six Weeks
Grading Period
Apr 7 - May 23

Students are currently in the 6th six weeks grading period. Progress reports for the 6th six weeks will be mailed on Wednesday, April 30th for the high school and middle school. Elementary progress reports will go home in the Monday folder on May 5th.


TAKS Tutorials
Hempstead
Fire Station

Mondays and Wednesdays
5:30 - 6:45 p.m.

Juniors and seniors, who have not passed the exit level TAKS test, will have another opportunity to re-test the week of April 29th - May 2nd.

TAKS tutorials are being offered at the Hempstead Fire Station on Volunteers will be available to work with students who need extra help in preparing for the Exit Level TAKS tests.

Grant

HHS Faculty & Staff Eligible for TEEG Grant

Congratulations to the Hempstead High School faculty and staff on becoming eligible to apply for the Texas Educators Excellence Grant (TEEG) for the 2007-2008 school year. This program recognizes and rewards campuses enrolling high percentages of educationally disadvantaged students that either received an exemplary or recognized accountability rating, or achieved within the top quartile performance for comparable improvement in mathematics, reading/English Language Arts, or both. The high school made improvement in both areas.
